Dominus Flevit

Across the Kidron Valley from Jerusalem, halfway down the Mount of Olives is a small church, called Dominus Flevit. According to tradition, it is built on the spot where Jesus wept over Jerusalem (Dominus meaning 'The Lord', Flevit meaning 'wept'). According to other traditions, it is also the spot where Jeremiah the prophet composed his Lamentations.

Whatever the truth, it is a small chapel with a garden and a tremendous view. I took this photo early one late May afternoon. The sky is not usually that blue in Jerusalem -- it was just a camera trick. If you look carefully, you will see three priests performing a Mass. The photo was taken from slightly below the church, facing up the Mount of Olives. My back was to the Kidron Valley and old Jerusalem.
